Palestinian kills Israeli in West Bank – Quincy Herald-Whig | Illinois & Missouri News, Sports

JERUSALEM (AP) – Israeli police say a Palestinian killed an Israeli in the West Bank and was later shot and detained by officers.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says that a “Palestinian terrorist attacked an Israeli civilian at a bus stop” at the Tapuah junction in the northern West Bank.

He says the Palestinian either stabbed or shot the Israeli man who died of his wounds at the scene Tuesday morning.

Rosenfeld says the Palestinian then shot at border police nearby who returned fire, wounding him. Officers detained the man and are investigating the incident.

The West Bank, captured by Israel in the 1967 Mideast war from Jordan and claimed by Palestinians as part of their future state, has experienced a rise in violence lately but attacks like this one are rare.

Published: March. 13, 2013 at 6:09 AM

HEBRON, West Bank, March 13 (UPI) — A Palestinian man was killed by Israeli soldiers who entered the al-Fawar camp south of Hebron in pursuit of people who threw Molotov cocktails, officials said.

Mahmoud Titi, 25, was declared dead at a local hospital shortly after being shot, Ynetnews.com said. Two other Palestinians were injured.

The incident occurred late Tuesday after soldiers chased suspects thought to have thrown Molotov cocktails and stones at Israeli vehicles on a highway. Palestinians threw stones at the soldiers and clashes erupted, the website said. The soldiers said they opened fire after feeling threatened.

A statement by the Israeli army said, “During the disturbance, a part of the force found itself in a situation in which soldiers felt their lives to be in danger and opened fire on the attackers,” The Jerusalem Post said.

The army is investigating the incident.

West Bank students attack British diplomat's car – Quincy Herald-Whig | Illinois & Missouri News, Sports

By MAJDI MOHAMMED Associated Press

BIRZEIT, West Bank (AP) – Dozens of Palestinian students blocked the car of a British diplomat, some even jumping on the hood, to prevent his speech at a West Bank university.

The consul general, Sir Vincent Fean, was to speak at the Palestinian university of Birzeit on Tuesday but following the incident, the speech was cancelled.

As the diplomat arrived in the town of Birzeit and stepped out of the vehicle, several students swarmed around him, blocking his passage. Palestinian security guards pushed him back into the car, which then left. Fean appeared unharmed.

The British consulate in Jerusalem was not immediately available for comment.

Activist Saed Qasrawi says the Palestinian students had intended to organize a peaceful protest against British policy toward Palestinians, but their rally quickly turned into the incident with the diplomat.
