Vloggers, Bloggers, and Livestreamers – What are the Rights of the New Media? – Video

Vloggers, Bloggers, and Livestreamers – What are the Rights of the New Media?
So you're one of those people who follows Occupy, follows the Tea Party or goes to protests because you're a new style journalist? You aren't attached to any media outlet that's big or important. Instead you work for some small weekly, wear a hand made press pass or even publish news on your own site or blog. As a member of the “new media” have you ever wondered what your rights under the First Amendment actually are? Well, at least some of your questions will be answered in this 34 minute interview with Jerry Boyle, a Chicago attorney and member of the National Lawyers Guild. Boyle speaks here as an individual attorney and not as a representative of the Guild. What he tells you is well worth your listen. The NLG has been the defacto law team for Occupy Chicago over the last year. And during that time Boyle has walked the streets in a lot of protests, big (No NATO in Chicago) and small (a chalking protest just yesterday, 8/30/12). So he's got a lot of knowledge, both about what the law says and about how it actually applies to you – the vlogger, blogger or Livestreamer. While the laws in your area will differ and while every case requires individual legal assistance, this video should give you enough starter smarts to help you know how to avoid trouble in your daily rounds as a member of the small, indy media.From:mydinkywebcamViews:43 2ratingsTime:34:00More inEducation

Vloggers, Bloggers, and Livestreamers – What are the Rights of the New Media? ReMastered
{Note: this is a reupload of the Jerry Boyle video done in August. The only changes have been to the repair the audio, getting rid of the hiss and working to improve volume and equalization and to correct the highlights in the video. Not a word has been changed or cut though.] So you're one of those people who follows Occupy, follows the Tea Party or goes to protests because you're a new style journalist? Between October 19 and October 27 I visited 10 Occupy Groups: Occupy DC, Occupy Baltimore, Occupy Philly, Occupy Pittsburgh, Occupy Cleveland, Occupy Detroit, Occupy Chicago, Occupy Indianapolis, Occupy Cincinnati and Occupy Columbus in an effort to get the message and texture of some of the Occupy Groups who weren’t getting coverage in the media outside of when they had conflicts with police or City Officials. These interviews are with members of the Occupy Detroit encampment .

Occupy Chicago spreads message through downtown

They’ve been called disorganized, ragtag and unfocused. The Occupy Chicago group, which protests daily on La Salle Street, is all of that, and it might be their strength.Members of the group said that since the movement is hard to categorize, it’s hard to attack.
