ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) The momentum of this first-round playoff series has shifted to Minnesota.
For the Wild to keep their edge, or for the Colorado Avalanche to recapture their advantage, they’ll have to come up with a counter for the loss of an important player.
Wild left wing Matt Cooke was summoned for a hearing at the NHL office in New York regarding his kneeing penalty that injured Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie on Monday night in Game 3.The league said Cooke’s meeting will be Wednesday. Guys don’t travel cross country to defend themselves against simple fines, so Cooke is bound to get a multigame ban.
“Obviously things you don’t want to have happen. I think we all want to play good, physical, intense hockey,” Wild coach Mike Yeo said. “At the same time, I know that they want to do the same to us. Neither side wants to see anyone get hurt.”
Barrie will need four to six weeks to recover from a torn medial collateral ligament in his left knee. Avalanche coach Patrick Roy maintained Tuesday his stance from the night before, that the knee-on-knee incident in the open ice during the second period was the most important moment in Minnesota’s 1-0 overtime win. Roy said Cooke should have received a major penalty (he got two minutes in the box) that could have taken the Wild out of their rhythm.
The Wild outshot the Avalanche 46-22 and won on Mikael Granlund’s diving goal. Game 4 is set for Thursday, when the Avalanche will be without their top-scoring defenseman.
“Tyson, he’s very good on the power play, but more than that he’s always in the rush,” Roy said. “He’s like a fourth forward for us, and you need players like this. He was playing so well for us, and losing him certainly is going to hurt us. But listen: This is what we’ve been doing all year, finding a way to win when we lose important player.”
Barrie, who had 13 goals and 25 assists during the regular season, will be replaced in the lineup by Ryan Wilson, who has one goal in his last 99 games. He won’t be asked to replace Barrie’s offense, obviously, but rather bring a physical presence to the corners and around the crease as the games only increase in intensity and roughness.
Roy, however, cautioned against the temptation to retaliate.
“It’s not the time. The league will do its part. The referees will do their part on the ice. And we just got to go out there and play our game,” Roy said. “I don’t think we should focus on anything else.”

Maybe Stephen Colbert isnt as liberal as Rush Limbaugh and his fellow conservatives think.
The next host of CBS Late Night might be good at satirizing a right-wing blowhard because he secretly shares those views, just as Alec Baldwin was good at playing reactionary misogynist Jack Donaghy on 30 Rock.
Keep in mind, Colbert was one of 11 children. He lives in suburban Montclair, NJ, with his wife and three kids. He is a devout Catholic who teaches Sunday school.
On the show, hes neutral. He hates both sides equally. Mostly hes making fun of the media.
Colbert supported his sister Elizabeth in her unsuccessful campaign last year for a South Carolina congressional seat against Appalachian trail hiker Mark Sanford.
His sister is a Democrat, but maybe that just proves Colbert has strong family values.

JERUSALEM: Hard-line Jewish settlers attacked Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank for a second straight night, police said Wednesday, despite a warning from the defense minister of a tough response. Border guards and soldiers were attacked by stone throwing during their night patrols near the Yitzhar settlement in the northern West Bank, police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told AFP. The situation is calm now but could escalate at any moment, and security forces are deployed at Yitzhar. Rosenfeld said there had been no casualties but that two settlers had later been arrested. On Monday night, stone-throwing by settlers injured six border guards as they helped demolish a wildcat settlement outpost near Yitzhar. The injuries prompted Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon to warn that any further violence against security personnel would be dealt with severely. We shall not allow them to raise a hand against the army, the border police (or) the police, Yaalons office quoted him as saying.

April 6, 2014 – American Hockey League (AHL) Texas Stars CEDAR PARK, Texas – Texas Stars center Justin Dowling and left wing Mike Hedden each finished with two points on the game and goalie Cristopher Nilstorp stopped 30-of-31 shots in a 4-1 victory over the Lake Erie Monsters Sunday night in front of 4,538 fans at Cedar Park Center.
After a scoreless first period, Texas defenseman Jyrki Jokipakka opened up the scoring at 8:14 of the second frame taking a pass across the slot from center Justin Dowling and beating Lake Erie goaltender Sami Aittokallio stick-side. It was Jokipakka’s fifth goal of the year, assisted by Dowling and Mike Hedden. A mere 34 seconds later, the Monsters answered back to tie the game on a goal by David van der Gulik. Markus Lauridsen’s shot from the blue line was blocked in front, but Mark Olver reacted quickly to drop the puck to a waiting van der Gulik in the mid-slot for a snap shot into the net. Stars center Scott Glennie took back the lead with just over three minutes left in the period, one-timing a behind-the-back backhand pass from left wing Curtis McKenzie. It was a power play goal for Glennie, assisted by McKenzie and Travis Morin.
The score remained at 2-1 until the dying minutes of the third period. With 3:39 left, rookie Brett Ritchie scored an insurance goal bringing a pass from Hedden up the right side, cutting across the top of the crease and beating Aitokallio with a backhand upstairs for his 22nd goal of the year. Dowling would then cap off the scoring by notching a short-handed empty net goal with just over a minute left in regulation to seal the Stars’ victory 4-1.
Cristopher Nilstorp (25-12-4) finished with 30 saves on 31 shots to record his 25th win of the season in goal for Texas. Sami Aittokallio (13-14-3) stopped 23-of-26 shots faced and suffered his 14th loss of the year for Lake Erie. The Monsters out-shot the Stars 31-to-27 in the game and went 0-for-8 on the power play; Texas was 1-for-6 on the man advantage.
Notes: Brett Ritchie’s goal tonight, fifth in two games this weekend against Lake Erie, extended his current point streak to seven games. Ritchie has 13 points (7 goals, 6 assists) during his current streak. Mike Hedden extended his current assist and point streak to six games; he has nine assists and 10 points during that span. Travis Morin played in his 500th career professional game tonight.
The Texas Stars return to action on Friday, April 11th as they host the San Antonio Rampage at 7:30 p.m. at Cedar Park Center.
