Leaders of major health care organizations in Sonoma and Marin, Napa and Solano counties, listed alphabetically by last names.

Brian Alexander

Brian Alexander was appointed chief administrative officer July 1, 2013. Mr. Alexander joined Sutters West Bay Region management team as director of strategy in 2011 and served as the hospitals assistant administrator from September 2012 until being named CAO. Prior to joining Sutter Health, he worked in managed care contracting and human resources for the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and was a lead consultant with Health Care Futures located in Chicago. Mr. Alexander earned a bachelor of arts degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and his masters in business administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Tanir Ami

Tanir Ami is chief executive officer of Community Health Clinic Ole in Napa, the countys only federally qualified health center. Prior to joining Clinic Ole, Ms. Ami spent four years as executive director at the Community Clinic Consortium, a nonprofit organization supporting four health centers with 23 sites in Contra Costa and Solano counties. Prior to the Community Clinic Consortium, she served as program officer at the Center for HealthCare Access at Blue Shield of California Foundation. She holds a Masters in business administration from the University of California at Berkeley, Haas School of Business and a B.A. in womens studies and Latin American studies from University of California at Santa Barbara.

Jaynie Boren, regional vice president of strategic services for St. Joseph Health Northern California, is a business development and marketing executive with 25 years of progressive leadership responsibility for strategic planning, growing market share, creating new revenue opportunities and facilitating joint ventures. She works closely with St. Joseph Healths leadership teams in Napa, Sonoma and Humboldt counties to develop strategic plans that align with regional and health system goals, including expanding and developing services across a broad continuum of care. She is responsible for developing and implementing growth strategies, fostering collaborations with physicians and other provider-partners, and responding to changing community needs.

Beatrice Bostick

Beatrice Bostick is chief executive officer for Alliance Medical Center, a federally qualified health center with locations in Healdsburg and Windsor. Previously, she was the executive director of Clinic Ole in Napa County. She has worked primarily in the nonprofit health sector, having run community health centers for low-income and uninsured residents throughout the U.S. She began her health care career as a volunteer in rural villages in Togo, West Africa.

William Carroll

Dr. William Carroll specializes in internal medicine and has been practicing in Santa Rosa for 20 years. In addition, he holds the position of vice president of medical affairs for Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa. In this role, he aligns with the leadership structure throughout Sutter Health, providing consistent physician leadership and guiding the hospitals strategies focused on clinical excellence.

Former ambassador discusses Middle East

Christopher Hill, the former U.S. ambassador to Iraq and University of Denver Dean of International Studies, spoke of the vital role the U.S. plays in the Middle East to students and members of the Tampa community Wednesday at the Patel Center for Global Solutions.

Some Americans talk of isolation from the rest of the world, he said. Whether we like or not, we have to deal with other countries.

Mohsen Milani, the USF executive director of the Center for Strategic and Diplomatic Studies and moderator of the discussion, said he invited Hill to educate students on the ramifications international events have on U.S. interests.

What happens in that part of the world will have an impact on the way Americans live and an impact on the American economy, he said. In this age of globalization, we need to know what happens elsewhere.

The discussion began with an examination of the U.S. foreign policy in Afghanistan since the events of 9/11.

We were attacked, he said. I dont think any nation can simply ignore someone who attacks you like thatkilling 3,000 of your citizens.

The U.S. invaded Afghanistan to punish the Taliban and to repair the Afghani government in hopes of curing future hostility.
