Occupy Oakland protesters sue city and county

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Occupy Oakland protesters are suing the city and Alameda County, saying arrests last year violated their civil rights. The federal lawsuit filed Monday in San Francisco says 409 people were unlawfully arrested them outside the YMCA.

Vet injured during protest sues Alameda County

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) — An Iraq war veteran, who was seriously hurt last year during Occupy Oakland’s massive one-day strike, is now suing Alameda County for abuse. Army veteran Kayvan Sabeghi claims Alameda County sheriff’s jailers denied him medical care and mocked him for 18 hours before he got treatment for a lacerated spleen.

Most arrested in Occupy Oakland protests never charged

OAKLAND — The overwhelming majority of the Occupy Oakland protesters arrested during a series of rallies in the past year were never charged with a crime — an outcome that lends credence to protesters’ claims that police overreached as they sought to control the movement. Since the original Occupy Oakland encampment was torn down by the Oakland Police Department exactly one year ago, more than 700 people have been arrested for a variety of crimes including felony assault and misdemeanor vandalism, according to police.
